A LETTER FROM OUR NEW PRINCIPAL

Dear Hardy Middle School Parents, Guardians and Students,

I just wanted to take the opportunity to say hello and introduce myself as the new principal of Hardy.  Is it August 22 yet? In June I had the chance to meet some students and staff during the last two days of school.  At a PTA/LSAT meeting held on June 22, I met PTA and LSAT parents Greg Mize, Barry Hudson, Keenan Keller, Donna Murphy, Sherry Woods, Karen Bates, Paige Trevor and Jodi Ferrier.  I appreciate the warm welcome from all and I’m already excited about the opening of school.  I believe strongly it is going to be a GREAT year and I am honored to serve as the principal of such a fine school uniquely located in the nation’s capital.

In meeting with just a few parents, staff and students, each gives credit to the others regarding school strengths.  What a positive statement this is about the school!  With continued support, we will be assured of providing a quality education in which all students succeed.

I wanted to briefly share a little about myself before the school year officially begins. I was born and raised in St. Louis and that is where most of my family lives.

I always wanted to be a teacher and taught Physical Education and Health and coached for about ten years before becoming an administrator.  I received my doctorate in educational administration from Saint Louis University and spent approximately 20 years as an administrator in Missouri and Ohio.  Overall, this will be my 16th year in middle level education.  I was privileged to work in a national Blue Ribbon middle school and very proud that my previous middle school community received the state Gold Star award in 2008 for student achievement.

Since it is the end of July and I’m new, there is some important information and dates to share about the opening of school.  School starts Monday, August 22. Sixth grade orientation is Wednesday, August 17, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m..  For sixth graders, math testing information is enclosed as well as posted on the website.  A series of automated phone calls through Connect Ed will be made.  A student supply list will be posted online after August 1 and student schedules will be mailed around August 8.

Please be patient with me as I get to know each of you, and learn about the community. Information will be forthcoming regarding Back to School night and other Hardy events.

Please make sure that your school registration is complete and again thank you for the warm welcome.  Enjoy the rest of the summer.
