The SEM provides enriched learning experiences and higher learning standards through three goals; developing talents , providing a broad range of advanced-level enrichment experiences, and providing advanced follow-up opportunities based on student strengths and interests. The SEM focuses on enrichment for students through high levels of engagement and the use of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences that are constructed around students’ interests, learning styles, and preferred modes of expression.

Rocketry Club: 8th grade physicists design a rocket to participate in a launching competition. Don’t break the egg!
City Blossoms Community Partnership: 7th grade scientists become pollinator experts and share their new learning with their respective science classes. This parternership addresses 7th grade science standards through research and hands on activities.
Budding Novelists: A 7th grade enrichment unit for students to go deeper with their writing skills. We were fortunate to have historical fiction author Louis Bayard visit and offer inspiration, a professional writer’s perspective, answer questions, and provide feedback on student story leads.
GeoArt: A 6th Grade Geometry/Art enrichment unit to discover and apply properties of 2 and 3 dimensional figures to art.
Construction Module: A 7th Grade enrichment unit for students learn about the trades, green technology, city planning, design, and historical context of a rehabbed building.
Hispanic Heritage Celebration: A school-wide event faciliated by Ms. Garcia, integrating across school subject areas to create a stellar presentation by students for students.
Homeless March: An annual school-wide event organized by Ms. Hester for students to be proactively involved in making a difference for the homeless.
